The Founder Story
My name is Daniel. Founder, Developer, Engineer of Portable PREP.
My story starts in the wide-open spaces of West Texas and Southern New Mexico. A place where the sky goes on forever, and towns are far apart, but there are lots of Horned Toads, roadrunners, and rattlesnakes. Out there, I learned that being prepared isn’t about paranoia—it’s about common sense.
Fast forward some 50 years, and I learned a second lesson: systems fail. In 2018, I joined a startup called Chef-Built, which made commercial kitchen equipment. We had a good launch. Then Covid arrived: restaurants worldwide closed. And so did we; Investors pulled the plug in October 2020.
Lesson one plus lesson two equals: don’t get too comfortable or dependent. Be independent. Portable PREP is my answer to these lessons.
That brings me to today, and to Portable PREP (Practical Reliable Emergency Preparedness). This isn’t a hobby for me. It’s a conviction to help family, neighbors, and community when it matters most. I’m developing the tools I want to have if the world has a bad day—whether that’s a hurricane knocking out power for weeks, or an earthquake shaking the foundations. But they’re also tools you can use today for off-grid enjoyment—camping, hiking, or hunting.
Portable PREP Wind Turbine is not a one-off, it’s the start of a journey. We are already expanding the Wind Turbine to a Water Turbine; remove the blade and hub system and install a water blade or a hand crank. We’re making the most out of a single generator, that we designed and built by ourselves. This is not the first portable wind turbine. To my knowledge, most portable wind turbines on the market today offer 5W–50W. Our prototype delivers 250W at a mere 6 lbs.
True power, true portability, true versatility. At portableprep.com, we are bringing solutions. You’re not just getting a turbine. You’re joining a small group of people who want real independence—without the paranoia.
